Conclusion

MRI is the modality of choice for staging and treatment planning of rectal cancer. Familiarity with key radiological MRI features, along with the main pitfalls and knowledge of rectal cancer local staging is important to correctly stage and accurately report, so appropriate treatment options can be considered.
