Aims and objectives
The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical use of combined FDG-PET/MRI in patients with NF1 for monitoring enlargement and metabolism of PNFs with regard to malignant transformation,
as well as possibility to detect NF1 associated CNS lesions in standard T2 weighted brain images,
which are part of the whole body PET/MRI standard protocol.
Methods and materials
This retrospective study was approved by our local institutional ethical review board and informed consent was waived (Project Number: 345/2018BO). The underlying study population consisted of all patients with NF1 undergoing FDG-PET/MRI in our institution between September 2012 and February 2018 presenting with a clinical question referring to malignant transformation of known plexiform neurofibromas. PET/MRI imaging All combined PET/MRI examinations were performed on an integrated clinical...
28 patients [14 female; mean age 20 (2-44) years] with neurofibromatosis type 1 were included.
15 patients were children below the age of 18 years. 6/28 patients presented with one target lesion,
5/28 patients presented with two target lesions,
8/28 patients presented with three target lesions,
4/28 patients with four target lesions,
3/28 patients with five target lesions and 2/28 patients with six target lesions,
respectively. In the 28 patients cohort,
83 lesions were evaluated,
