Aims and objectives
Lymphatic malformations are relatively rare developmental anomalies of the lymphatic system. This retrospective study was conducted to analyse the imaging features of lymphatic malformations in differentregions of the bodyand their differential diagnoses.
Methods and materials
32 patients who were suspected to have lymphatic malformations on ultrasound,
cross sectional imaging or both were subjected to histopathology.
The imaging findings in these patients were then analyzed.
RESULTS: Out of 32 patients,
25 were confirmed to have lymphatic malformations. The predominant findings in proven cases were presence oflobulated contour(18/25 patients,
multicysticlesion (17/25 patients,
68%), presence of septations (16/25 patients,
64 %) and involvement of more than 1 plane ( 11/25 patients,
Fluid fluid levels were seen in 5/25 patients(20%). 7 patients wereconfirmed to have other diagnoses like a retroperitoneal mullerian cyst,
A multiloculated cystic mass with a lobulated contour and internal septations,
which does not respect the fascial planes is diagnostic of cystic lymphangioma. Typical imaging findings of cystic lymphangioma A trans-spatial multioculated cystic compressible mass with thin non-vascular walls and septations. When infected or hemorrhagic,
it may become hetero-echoic and non-compressible with vascularized walls and septa.
It may show fluid-fluid levels. CT and MRI are necessary to exactly...
