Main aim is to highlight the principles and advantages of advanced imaging techniques for pediatric abdominal masses. To illustrate findings of contrast enhanced CT abdomen for abdominal masses in pediatric population. To discuss the common and uncommon abdominal tumors and their pattern recognition. To determine the role of CT in assessment of distant metastasis, response to therapy and extent of disease
Pediatric abdominal masses not an infrequent entity,
usually encountered in day to day practice.
Many of these lesions are diagnosed as an incidental finding on prenatal ultrasound.
Patients with masses presented with more or less similar symptoms thus creating a diagnostic dilemma.
Imaging examinations have an important role to determine not only the origin of the abdominal mass but also its extension which is crucial for optimal patient management and pre-surgical planning.
Findings and procedure details
FINDINGS AND PROCEDURE DETAILS : This pictorial review depicts the CT scan findings of various abdominal masses in pediatric patients scanned at our center demonstrating organ involvement,
distant metastasis and response to therapy. Here we are going to share cases from our department illustrating wide spectrum of lesions involving liver,
pancreas and kidneys,
All cases were confirmed on histopathology later .
The scanning was...
In daily practice a long list of differential may be encountered by radiologist but a good understanding about the origin and imaging patterns of masses is essential for confident radiological diagnosis. Imaging with CT is of utmost benefit not only for the identification of origin of lesion but also for road mapping before surgical excision is contemplated.
Clinician takes maximum benefit of this state of art modality in children presenting with abdominal distension and pain.
