This study aims to demonstrate the evaluation of salivary glands through the images means: ultrasound (USG),
multidetectorscomputed tomography (MDCT) and high field magnetic resonance image (MRI).
It was described the aspects of pathological abnormalities and conditions of the salivary glands,
notably parotid and submandibular,
correlating the traditional image with those of the Sialo resonance technique (Sialo-MR).
Numerous pathologies determine the sensory and functional changes of the salivary glands,
neoplastic and mainly obstrutive changes.
The tradional X-ray sialography technique is invasive wich requires manual skills for cannulation of the ducts,
with a risk of radiation and iodine allergy.
The focus on Sialo-MR is due the fact that it is a new type of evaluation,
the method to be non-invasive,
without the need of intravenous...
Findings and procedure details
some examples of cases studied by more traditional methods,
such as X-ray sialography and computed tomography (CT) are demonstrated,
followed by the cases of sialo-MRI. Acute and chronic inflammatory processes of the submandibular and parotid glands appears as an increase in the gauge of the ducts without evident filling defect,
while sialolithiasis appears as a failure to fill them.
In CT images,
it is possible to identify the material with calcium attenuation in the topography of...
Sialo-MRI is a method that is added to other imaging tests,
thus reinforcing the need for the radiologist to know the characteristics and advantages of the method to best contribute to the diagnostic elucidation and adequate clinical procedures.
