Aims and objectives
postural changes affect all different age groups by the use of computers,
cell phones or sedentary routines (1).
A healthy spine needs a good posture,
exercise and stretching (2).
The promotion of a healthy spine and the prevention of postural deviations should be included and developed in early childhood education (2). Scoliosis is characterized by lateral deviation of the spine curvature (3).
Hyperlordosis is defined as the accentuation of the lumbar spine curvature,
Methods and materials
30 young adults were submitted to an ultrasound evaluation of the rectus abdominis and multifidus lumbar muscles in rest and contraction and an angle measurement of the lumbar spine through a photometry equipment.
They were divided in to groups: one of control and other with non-congenital posture.
With a sample composed by 11 participants with postural deviations,
and 19 without.
360 images were analysed with Image J software to obtain muscle thickness and echo-intensity values from the two...
Using the SPSS v.20 software,
it was shown that there were significant differences between the rest and contraction one muscle thickness and echo-intensity on both muscles.
There were not significant differences between the two groups of participants and there was no correlation between the angle and the ultrasound measurements.
Our study showed that there were significant differences between the muscle thickness values in rest and contraction,
according to the results of Wittacker,
(2014) research (5).
(2006) defends that muscles trunk force and balance changes in trunk muscles may cause changes in the lumbar spine curvature and it has not been proven by this study (6). The postural deviations don’t influence the ultrasound characteristics of the studied muscles.
However more studies must...
