Aims and objectives
The ultrasonography and Doppler evaluation can be used as an initial investigative tool to assess pulsatileneckmasses.
The computed tomography(CT)and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)havean advantage in describing disease extension and delimit the origin of the primaryneckpathology. That was the reason to illustrate the diverse diagnosis of pulsatileneckmasses,
through the multipleimaging methods comparing each other the typicalradiologicalfindings and their pathogenesis as well as,
we want to...
Methods and materials
Around one year(July/2016-Agoust/2017)we have been gathering patients with just one inclusioncriteria:A neck pulsatile mass.Themaingoal was to study integrally their clinical and radiological features. The first assessment was a general ultrasound practice and Doppler evaluation,
after the lesion recognition we complemented with anAngio-MRI,Angio-CTor Angiography imaging. As well,
it wasdocumented the most common symptoms and clinical signs to correspond with the imaging findings. After that,
The total of patients that we could gather was thirty-two patients,
twenty-three of them with an abnormality in the course and geometry of the internal carotid artery (65% coiling and 35% kinking),
fiveparagangliomasof the Neck,
one with a carotid arterypseudoaneurysm,
a cervical artery dissection,
asubclaviananeurysm and ahypervascularcervical nodule.
The most common cause of neck pulsatile mass for our study was the one with vascular abnormalities,
followed by theparangangliomas. The most common clinical feature was the neck mass with a murmur listened by the auscultation of the cervical region.Wecan also suggest that the Ultrasound isa well recommended initial diagnostic and follow-up tool to evaluate this cervical process,
then tocompletethe study it is too useful to assess integrally with an angiographic imaging by CT,
