Aims and objectives
Evaluation of the feasibility of a novel Ultrasound (US) Bi-dimensional navigation tool in Musculoskeletal (MSK),
Kidney and Thyroid applications.
In recent years,
the interest for multimodality side by side comparison of imaging,
as well as for real-time fusion imaging,
due to technological improvements and also to higher level clinical and research needs related to more advanced percutaneous treatments and improvements in pathologies follow up protocols and practice.
Methods and materials
On 4 male patients,
that previously underwent respectively Thyroid SPECT,
Shoulder X-Ray and Abdomen CT (1 patient for each imaging modality),
an US examination with a novel electromagnetically tracked technology for 2D Navigation,
that combines real-time US with pre-acquired DICOM images (BodyMap,
Italy) was subsequently performed.

The real-time US navigation on the reference image was always possible in all the tested applications.
It was always possible to use the 2D Navigation BodyMap Technology,
with a good correspondence between the probe represented and the real probe visible on real-time US. Different US imaging and Doppler modalities were used when in BodyMap 2D Navigation: B-Mode,

2D Navigation of thyroid,
shoulder and kidney districts by BodyMap technology using reference images as SPECT,
X-Ray and CT images combined with US is feasible in everyday clinical practice.
This technology seems particularly useful for improving Radiological examination workflow and confidence,
as it allows automatic saving of pictures and clips of the US examined area with automatic probe position indication,
