Describe the radiologic features of gastrointestinal stromal tumors. Analyze the changes that occur in the tumor due to treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors that are useful to characterize the response to treatment. Illustrate these radiological findings with clinical cases of our institution.
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract.
they have peculiar radiological characteristics for both diagnosis and monitoring during treatment.
Findings and procedure details
INTRODUCTION Gastrointestinal stromal tumors are the most common type of mesenchymal tumor of gastrointestinal tract origin .
Although tumors show similar to smooth muscle cells and histological features of neural origin,
they have different characteristics. The most important of these is that they have immunochemical properties,
specially expressing the protein c-kit (CD117) .
This protein is a growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase associated. As a result,
tumors that were previously...
GIST are relatively common tumors that exhibit specific radiological characteristics for both diagnosis and treatment monitoring. It is important that the radiologist knows these features since they are crucial for patient management.
