Purpose: To evaluate the utility of an eCurriculum supported by a comprehensive hyperlinked indexed case repository to shorten radiology residency training using the neuroradiology curriculum as a pilot program.
Methods and Materials: Our current four year radiology residency curriculum follows the ACGME structure,
with 6 weeks of neuroradiology residency experience each year over four years.
We have summarised the program published curricular content for each year into themes,
which are hyperlinked to groups of online clinical cases (from a 5000 case hyperlinked indexed online case repository) for systematic compare and contrast deliberate practice sessions,
based on the mastery training literature;...
Findings and procedure details
Results: We have found this educational process to be time efficient,
and effective in achieving our educational outcomes; with residents reporting improved diagnostic confidence in day to day clinical work,
and radiology teachers reporting achievement of proficiency in clinical performance.
Conclusion: We have found our pilot program using an eCurriculum supported by a comprehensive hyperlinked indexed case repository to be time efficient and effective in our resident neuroradiology training rotations,
and has the potential to shorten radiology residency training.
