Conclusion
Preclinical PET plays a fundamental role, not only in the validation of animal models for human brain disease, but also in the quantitative measurement of regional changes in brain activity. For the first time, it has been demonstrated that an acute single low dose of cocaine can induce metabolic neurological changes. In vivo 18F-FDG PET imaging proved to be a crucial tool to identify those brain changes, which must be considered regardless of the dosage used. Quercetin proved to be a neuropsychoprotective agent against this exposure.
