Aim

In radiotherapy, an emerging procedure is the combination of multimodal imaging, PET/CT and MRI, to contour target volumes and organs at risk. In practice, PET/CT and MRI are rigidly registered to the planning CT of radiotherapy to perform the volume delineation. Acquiring images using the same patient position is necessary to get acceptable contours definition. Materials & Methods

PET/CT are performed on a Discovery 710 (GE®) and MRI on an Optima MR450w (GE®). Both imagers are equipped with lasers and rigid flat panels. Zephyr XL (Diacor®), which is a mobile table on air cushion system, is used to transfer immobilized patients from one modality to the other (Figure 2). PET/CT and MRI images are registered by using «Integrated Registration» software of the AW Server 3.2 (GE®). Results

Results show a reduction of pitch, roll and yaw values dispersions using the Zephyr XL (Diacor®) mobile table (B) compared to patients repositionning (A) (Figure4). From a statistical point of view, interquartile range (IQR) is reduced by 70% for pitch (Φ) and yaw (θ)values and about 36% for the roll (ψ)value (Figure 5).

Conclusion

In multimodal imaging combining PET/CT and MRI to guide radiotherapy, these preliminary results suggest that a mobile table on air cushion system, Zephyr XL (Diacor®), reduces position uncertainties, increasing the accuracy in the location of tumour volume and organs at risks. If confirmed, this system could improve the PET/CT-MR guided radiation therapy workflow.
