Correlation between Perfusion Micro-Bubble Ultrasound and Perfusion Contrast Enhanced MRI for Carotid Plaque Neovascularization

Results

  We have acquired interpretable images from 9 patients. The results show 8 out of the 9 cases correlate in the level of enahancement. The correlation measured between the (High/Low) avereged EI(plaque)/EI(lumen) dB-enhancement of microbubble values versus the mean of Ktrans of the plaques perfusion MRI. 

 

 

  The statistical values: Using Spearman Rank Correlation:

  Number of points = 9

  Spearman r = 0.6614 (corrected for ties)

 

 

   Test: Is r significantly different than zero? 

   The two-tailed P value is 0.0589, considered not quite significant.

   The P value may be inaccurate because of ties.

 The resulted Ktrans values (Fig. 7) ranged between 0.04 min^-1 and 0.09. We considered values equal or larger than 0.06 min^-1 as “High” values and lower values are “Low”. For the ultrsound (Fig.8) EI ratios, values ranged between 2.45e-02 and 3.89e-01. We considered values as “High” if higher than 4.00e-02.

  Noted in the results as well that the values range in MRI is narrower than that of Ultrasound.
