To investigate the ability of hard x-ray phase contrast imaging with synchrotron radiation (SR-PCI) in demonstrating gastric micro-structures in vitro.
Material and methods
Six gastric specimens of patients with gastric cancer were fixed in formalin for 2-7 days. Then the non-cancerous part was taken, the mucosa layer was dissection and performed SR-PCI examination with cancer together. On in-line holography: Gastric grooves appeared bright lines, divided the mucosa into irregular areas, namely areae gastricae. Foveolae gastricae appeared small round bright dot, grouped or stripped together in areae gastricae. The size of foveolae gastricae was even, and the diameters were 50-100µm. SR-PCI can demonstrate the tiny architecture of gastric wall as well as gastric cancer.
